Napoleon Dynamite-A Review

My sisters had heard good things about this one from their friends, so my mom bought the movie yesterday and we all watched it last night.

My patented 100-word-or-less synopsis:

Wow. What can I say about this movie. It doesn't really have a tight-fitting plot. Basically, Napoleon is a major geek. He gets bullied. Then he meets a new Mexican student named Pedro. Later on, he meets a shy girl named Deb. The three become friends. Pedro and Napoleon have a hard time getting girls to go to the dance with them. At the dance, Pedro decides he is going to run for class president. In the end, Pedro becomes class president. Oh, there is also the fact that Napoleon's scam-artist uncle is ruining his life.

Well, this movie wasn't all that great. It wasn't too funny, but it made me laugh a few times. One of my favorite parts is: during Pedro's campaign for presidency, Napoleon sees a kid being bullied. To get his vote he says "Pedro offers you his protection." After school, the bully is trying to take the kid's bike when some tough-looking Mexicans in a really cool car with "Vote for Pedro" written on the side drive up, look at the bully and shake their heads, and the bully runs away. This movie gives you a few laughs, but I am not sure if it is worth the $20 it cost at Wal-Mart.

My rating: B, not bad, but not too good either.

Info:
Distributer: Fox Searchlight
Director: Jared Hess
Rating: PG for thematic elements and language
Production Time: a little over 3 weeks

Happy Sunday!

Ahh. Sunday. The most relaxing day of the week. Unfortunately for me, I have nothing to talk about in my blog today. Oh wait, I forgot. I have told myself that I would review every new release DVD/theater movie I saw (from this point onward). Let the movie reviews begin! Perhaps I will review other things too. Now it is time for a review.

Wow. I rambled on on this post. (confused look) I need to get my act together!

Ugg. Finals.

Ugg. This week has been finals week, so I've been too busy relaxing during the afternoons (no finals in the afternoon!) that I have just forgotten to blog.

On a brighter note, If I recall right, I have posted something about finals before. That would make this blog about 9 months old. And it hasn't changed much over that time.

Update that is not really an update because I made the update before posting the post: I have posted about finals before. It was my 4th post. Read it here: http://villageidiotrandomthings.blogspot.com/2004/06/freedom.html

Also, this blog is about (I guessed right) 9 months old!!!

Great Extension for Mozilla Thunderbird

This extension allows you to minimize Thunderbird (or Firefox) to the system tray. The icons are also great! :)

Wizmo

What is Wizmo? It is a really cool little app that does a lot of stuff. Check it out!

Wizmo Website

RSS Feeds

RSS Feeds can be used for so much. Almost all blogs and news/review sites have them these days, and if it doesn't have one, it is not worth reading. So what do you do? There is always the Live Bookmarks feature of Firefox, but if you keep track of a lots and lots of Feeds, it just won't suffice. One that I just downloaded and like reasonably well is RSSOwl. It is open source and cross-platform, because it is based off of Java. It has lots of feeds pre-programmed in, and it isn't too hard to add others to the Favorites. The only thing bad about it is that it used IE to open web pages within the application, but you can tell the program to use an external browser. RSS Feeds: the wave of the future! Hop on!

New info on Trillian

If you read the fact that "the free version isn't too good" (previous post), then know that they have changed. They recently came out with a new version that looks a lot better. I don't have any personal experience with it, and the free version still has fewer features, but it does look better. However, the user reviews on Download.com say that it is really buggy. Still, it got a 5 out of 5 from Download.com, so check it out.

I have seen the IM Light!

If you are using MSN Messenger (or, if you are the lamest person on earth, AOL IM)
STOP RIGHT NOW!!!
MSN Messenger is OK, but it really lacks in features. If you use AOL IM, you are just lame. You should hurt yourself for being that lame.
Yahoo messenger is better. I like the LaunchCast radio feature. It is great to not have to have a browser window open to listen to it. Also, their Avatars feature is absolutely awesome!
However, I personally like ICQ the best. It has fun and original single player and multiplayer games (as well as some non-original ones). Also, the ICQ Universe is really cool. You can trace a network of friends through the entire internet. Who knows, you might even go full circle. Also, with the next version, they are introducing single button voice chats.
And for those lame people using AOL IM: ICQ allows you to talk to AOL friends (not surprising, AOL owns ICQ).

Finally, if you can sacrifice the cool features but have friends on all the IM clients, there are two main options for you to use an all-in-one application.
First, there is Trillian. It's cool, but the free version isn't too good.
Second, there is Gaim. This one works on all major OSs because it is Open Source.

I hope these links serve you well, especially you AOL IM lame people!!!
